Make Your Life Your Own

Ilchi Lee - layers of consciousness

Information percolates through the layers of our consciousness, agitating and changing them.

Do you feel lonely and empty inside, even when you are with your loved ones? Do you wonder who you really are and what your purpose in life is? If that is the case, then you probably are missing yourself in your life. Somehow, you have left your true self out of your life. It means that you are not connected with your soul—your true, unchanging, eternal essence—and your soul is not connected to the divine nature we all hold in our brains.

The depths of the feeling we experience when we encounter the beautiful souls within us is the first great discovery of our lives. That alone, however, is not enough. The genuine great discovery of our lives is encountering our divinity. The source of genuine power is inspiration from our own divine nature. Divinity is a zeroed state of nothingness; in a zeroed state without any memory or identity, there are no limitations. Infinite creation is possible.

When we are not aware of, or when we do not have a steady feeling of our soul and divinity inside, it is often because our countless thoughts and emotions are cluttering our awareness. There are the thoughts we perceive, the ones that fly through our conscious minds, and there are the thoughts we don’t perceive, the ones that simmer in our subconscious minds. We are only conscious of a small portion of our thoughts and what influences us from the outside. Before something happens to us, our subconscious already knows about it, but we can’t see it. It’s as if there are many cards prepared in our subconscious mind based on our old memories, habits, and programs that announce the future. They are lined up and ready to go. Then an incident stimulates our conscious minds, which brings out one of these cards. The cards create something in our lives such as an illness, unhappiness, or the resolution of an unfortunate situation. These cards determine our lives and enslave our souls.

However, we don’t have to be slaves. We have another aspect of our minds, the superconscious mind, which is able to see the big picture—the oneness and divinity of which we are all a part that exist beyond our individual selves. From our superconscious minds, our conscious minds can receive inspiration from divinity and can perceive our souls clearly.

We have the power to choose whether to live according to the inspiration delivered to us by our superconscious minds or according to the memories and habits stuck in our subconscious minds. To do that we need to take 100% responsibility for our lives and clear the codes embedded in our subconscious. When our subconscious is clear and pure, our subconscious, conscious, and superconscious minds can be connected. With this integration, we can feel our souls and access divine inspiration. Our souls become free of the shackles of the past and we can design our own futures.

Meditation and breathing can purify our subconscious—in essence, we need to send it LifeParticles. The minute we call to mind LifeParticles our brains begin to change. Purifying our subconscious is an ongoing process involving clearing everything we are holding onto, whatever it may be. For this process, it is tantamount to believe and trust in ourselves.

My hope is that you can trust and believe in yourself enough to experience these concepts in your own life.

Stay in the Rhythm

Do you feel a sense of discord or disconnect in your life? It’s easy to lose touch with your inner groove. If you look at it closely, however, that groove is more than just a spring in your step or something we call happiness. It’s part of the great rhythm that is the vital force behind all life. I call this rhythm “yulyeo.”

In Korean musical language, “yul” and “yeo” are terms used to describe certain types of melodic lines. Put together, they mean the fundamental tone of creation and the source of universal harmony. It is a language before language; and it is light, sound, and vibration. Yulyeo is the echo of the big bang, the traces of the Creator’s first exhalation, and the source of “grand unification.” But even combining all of these things, it is not possible to describe yulyeo properly.

Yulyeo pulses as the essence of the vital power in all living things. It is the same energy that makes the human heart beat, the Earth turn, the sun shine, the flowers bloom, and the birds sing. All of creation existing in the universe follows yulyeo, which is the natural order of everything, and displays yulyeo’s vital power to the fullest.

We have been born into this world through yulyeo, and we live in the world through yulyeo. Your heart beats without resting and your cells breathe regularly through yulyeo. Life “plays” on a field of yulyeo. What maximizes yulyeo are dancing and singing. If you sing from your soul, your connection to all life, yulyeo becomes music, and if you compose beautiful words from your soul, yulyeo becomes poetry and art. An ideal world is one in which yulyeo lives and moves vigorously and vibrantly. It is a world of harmony.

The knowledge that you have accumulated so far, on the contrary, impedes the world of yulyeo. In dancing that involves only a mechanical shaking of the body or dryly following certain steps, you cannot look for or find the vital power that flows forth from within. There is no soul in singing simply at the top of your lungs. Because superficial knowledge, arts, and play put an opaque shell around the essence of life, we tend to split the world up into pieces when we look at it. By failing to see the bigger picture, by missing the essence behind the cover, and fixing our eyes only on the little details, we lose yulyeo, the higher order of all creation in the universe.

However, yulyeo has not disappeared. From the beginning of creation until now and continuing eternally into the future, yulyeo will exist as the rhythm of the universe. It’s just that our sense of yulyeo is closed—making us distant from nature and other people. Just like Truth, Yulyeo is neither visible nor tangible. That’s why people think it is extremely difficult to grasp. The only way to know yulyeo is to feel it; it must be experienced directly.

To feel yulyeo you need to cast off all thoughts and preconceptions and throw yourself into its rhythm. Yulyeo is a world that cannot be entered while in the possession of thoughts, especially idle or ill-intentioned thoughts, jealously, or desire for control and security. When you let go of your thoughts and focus deeply, a single strain of the yulyeo that pervades the universe in layers starts to come to you and makes you say, “Ah!” Then you suddenly feel a brilliant flash of profound insight abruptly split your head, or sometimes your whole body, and you shiver from it.

Yulyeo bursts forth from a place where there are no boundaries or conventions. If you stay inside a mold, your true strength starts to dissipate and your power diminishes and you only pretend to put on a show. You feel anxious for no reason and you lose confidence.

It’s easier to experience yulyeo through your body. Move your body to its own inner beat. As you follow its rhythm, your mind will gradually empty and your emotions will become quiet. The flow of yulyeo, the song of your soul, will become stronger and stronger until it fills you and streams out of you in all directions. When you grasp yulyeo through firsthand experience with your own body, you feel that you have merged into one with the universe. It is Che Yool Che Deuk Ooh Ah Il Che (體律體得 宇我一體): “Through grasping through experience with the body, the universe and I become one body.”

The world with which we are constantly colliding is always new. Memory and experience do not particularly serve us. In fact, they actually become constructs and ruts that hinder us from seeing things in a new way and taking on new challenges. Every day, we meet a new world and new people. If we stay in touch with yulyeo, we can always feel we are in the right place at the right time and we can address all that we meet.

Catch Your Dreams

Ilchi lee - Master Your DreamsWhat would happen to your brain if you didn’t sleep for three days? It would become difficult for you to make normal judgments and engage in normal activities. There’s no torture more terrible than sleep deprivation. It’s better to go three days without eating.

Yes, sleep is necessary for our vital activity. Through sleep we can relieve our weariness and solve different forms of stress. But sleep is also very important for our spiritual completion. You can turn sleep into spiritual training by ruling your sleep and making use of your dreams.

Everyone is bound to have dreams once they’ve slept for a while. Dreams are energy effects in our brains—the actions of LifeParticles. Although you may be unaware of it, all of the actions of your brain come from the ceaseless activity of LifeParticles. Dreams are a manifestation of the activity of LifeParticles in your subconscious. They tell you what is happening in that part of your mind. Just as we can learn to control LifeParticles when we are awake, we can learn to control them while we are asleep. We can clean out our subconscious through our dreams, get answers to our problems, and envision the future.

Try this exercise for twenty-one days to gain power over your dreams. Before you go to bed, spend about five minutes writing down a simple description of what you did that day. Record any problems you might have, Then, before you go to sleep, suggest to yourself, “Today I will dream and definitely remember my dreams.” Then when you have a dream, as soon as you open your eyes, record the dream in your notebook. If you can’t remember your dreams, then write about your current state of mind or feelings. Don’t criticize or judge your dreams or intentionally try to dream good dreams.

If you stick to this routine, you will eventually be able to remember from one to five dreams a day. Your head will actually feel clearer from this exercise and your brain will awaken. Solutions to your problems and other information will start to come to you in your dreams. Your dreams may reveal unfamiliar parts of and you’ll see a clearer picture of yourself.

From the deep and wide vantage point of your dreams, you can perceive how you are the creator of all of your present circumstances. This greater perception can wipe away any victim consciousness you have and help you recognize that you are the perpetrator of everything in your life. Then, you can design your life with a sense of responsibility for it and live without resentment and fear.

When you consciously create your dreams and your life, won’t your life become rewarding? I think when you learn to dream what you want and then better manifest it in reality, it will become easier to live for the greater good. Your life will be a blessing and hope to other people and gratitude will naturally come from your heart.

If you try tracking your dreams, learning from them, and even controlling them, I would love to hear about it. Please share your journey with us.
