Brain Education for Enhanced Learning at the Harvard Graduate School of Education
05/09/2009

On May 6th over 100 people gathered at the Harvard Graduate School of Education for the Brain Education for Enhanced Learning and Living Forum. The event opened with a stirring speech by Denise Simmons, the mayor of Cambridge, who praised Brain Education and Ilchi Lee, founder of Brain Education, for focusing on the whole child, encouraging and empowering children to be their best selves, de-emphasizing the over-importance of standardized test performance, which our current educational system prizes highly.

Three presentations followed -- an experience of Brain Education, including Brain Wave Vibration practice, led by Erin Carter, regional Brain Education trainer; a journey of integrating BE in the Germaine Lawrence School in Arlington by Deputy Director Deni Howley; and a presentation on the history and mission of the International Brain Education Association by Jennifer Sherwood and Passion Jun of New York, New York. The team from IBREA presented the Earth Citizen Movement. According to Jun, Earth Citizens are people who are willing to take on unlimited responsibility for a healthy Earth community by realizing that the Earth is the core of their true identity. The Earth Citizen Movement (www.iearthcitizen.org) is about creating a healthy Earth and a peaceful world.

At the end of the presentations, audience members had the opportunity to ask questions of the presenters and share their experiences with Brain Education. Steven Powers of Arlington shared about his success from practicing BE at the Boston area Dahn Yoga centers. He shared that before his participation in BE, his autonomic nervous system was shutting down, he had severe acid reflux, couldn’t breathe well, and was in deep depression. After regular practice, he shared that now his nervous system is back to normal, his acid reflux is “almost completely gone” and his “breathing couldn’t be better!” He said that now he has a positive outlook on life, instead of just waiting for his eventual decline into death.

A student from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Shannon Brown of Cambridge, shared about her remarkable experience with BE as well, noting that she now has a greater ability to be calm and focused, even in situations that would have been stressful for her before starting her practice. She is learning Brain Education at the Harvard Dahn Center.
