The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Arizona held one of its most successful Sedona Taste events, June 8, 2008, at the creek side at Los Abrigados Resort & Spa. A crowd of 600 enjoyed cuisine and wines from 43 Sedona establishments.
Among the several entertainments, the highlight of the evening featured a special presentation by the Torch Club of 10 girls, doing a performance of DahnMuDo martial arts exercises. The girls were trained and led by Rebecca Cheema from the Dahn Yoga Center of Sedona, also Assistant Professor of the Athletic Training and Education Program at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, and Wellness Consultant at the university’s Center for High Altitude Training. DahnMuDo is a non-combative, self-empowerment martial art rooted in 5,000 years of Korean tradition.
Cheema stated, “While it was a challenge for the girls to stay focused during months of training and this event’s rehearsals, something almost magical happened to them during the actual performance that was a joy for all to see.”
Many audience members accepted the invitation to participate in the final part of the performance, making for a fun and memorable occasion.
The Boys & Girls Club provides critical daily services to Northern Arizona's youth. Its four sites in the Sedona, Village of Oak Creek and Cottonwood communities host programs focusing on character and leadership development, education and career enhancement, health and life skills, the arts, and sports, fitness and recreation.
Sedona Dahn Yoga Center’s affiliated staff volunteer for a variety of local community programs in holistic fitness and brain education, especially serving youth and seniors.
