Dr. Jessie Jones Gives Podcast Interview on In Full Bloom Print E-mail

Jessie Jones, PhD gave a podcast interview on May 5, 2008 for Book Expo America about the book she co-authored with Ilchi Lee, In Full Bloom: A Brain Education Guide for Successful Aging.

The book’s publisher, Best Life Media, will feature the book at Book Expo America’s annual convention at the Los Angeles Convention Center from May 29th to June 1st.

In this almost 4-minute interview, Dr. Jones explained the essential theme of the book, that the “health of the brain throughout the aging process is determined by the choices we make in each moment of our lives.” It’s about becoming masters of our brain in order to become happier and healthier. Then, “what we refer to as our soul, fully blooms”.

As she and Ilchi Lee do in the book, Dr. Jones busted one of the common myths about the aging brain: that the brain inevitably and continually goes downhill as we get older -- our memory gets worse and there’s nothing we can do about it. In fact, she said, “there is some loss. We have loss in our neuroconnections throughout life. But we also make new neuroconnections. There are over 100 trillion connections in the brain. In fact, our brains become more wise as we age.”

From Dr. Jones’s perspective, Ilchi Lee’s Brain Education program is a holistic approach to improving entire brain function, not just cognitive function. It integrates various brain structures, which helps people feel peaceful and happy.

The effects of Brain Education support her own research in exercise science and aging at the Center for Successful Aging at California State University, Fullerton. Through it she has learned that a person can invigorate the brain with physical activity that challenges both brain and body and both heart and lungs. A variety of exercises, including yoga and tai chi, benefit the brain and body the most.

Dr. Jones has also seen how powerful thoughts are and reiterates the advice of many to think positive thoughts full of generosity and loving kindness.

As co-director of the Center for Successful Aging Dr. Jones has helped many seniors improve their quality of life. She shares Ilchi Lee’s vision of helping people have a healthy, happy, and peaceful life that is full of vitality at any age.
