In a formal dialogue session, Ilchi Lee met with Gao Dabin (高大彬), president of Dalian University, to explore Brain Education in the dynamic Chinese context, at Dalian University (大连大学), Dalian City, China, November 16, 2007. They conversed mainly about how to address pressing social issues—especially caused by China's rapid economic development—from the viewpoint of Brain Philosophy and Brain Education.

China is expected to become a world-class center of the global economy and military capacity in 10 years. However, Ilchi Lee pointed out that this would not raise the level of Chinese happiness. Citing the examples of the United States, Japan and South Korea, he said many countries with high economic levels are suffering from social issues such as suicide, divorce, and crimes, which indicates that the basic order of their society is unstable. He added that if China focuses only on economic growth and disregard life quality issues, the social problems for the country with the world’s biggest population will be very severe. He mentioned that this is why China needs Brain Education to recover its citizens’ humanity, along with policies for economic development.

President Gao agreed with Ilchi Lee’s opinion, saying that Paramount Leader Hu Jintao put major emphasis on public welfare in the 17th National Convention. Gao pointed to a current statistics that show the happiness index of urban people not to be higher than for rural people, although the economic indicators for the former are much higher than for the latter.

After agreeing with each other’s views on the future of China, the two presidents focused deeply on Brain Philosophy, the intellectual foundation of Brain Education. Explaining Brain Philosophy and Brain Management, Ilchi Lee affirmed that peace for human beings would not be feasible as long as we fail to change the purpose of using our brain. He said what has caused dehumanization and global warming is the human tendency to use the brain to satisfy their desire and to control others.

The two presidents shared Brain Philosophy’s basic principle that when we use the brain for completion and healing, human society and the earth can coexist, and this is when human society’s value system will change life’s purpose from desire to completion, human relationship from control to respect, communication from competition to harmony, the meaning of property from ownership to stewardship, the meaning of profit from private to public, thus we can achieve personal completion and world peace.

According to Gao, Brain Philosophy’s basic principles of value, harmony, stewardship and the public exactly coincide with the key ideals of the Chinese Communist Party. He showed great interest in the ideas that the current and future issues of Chinese society can be resolved by the effective use of the brain. Gao added that Dalian University would adopt and apply Brain Education through academic interchange with the University of Brain Education, given that in China the brain is not recognized as an object of study or education but instead as a focus of medicine and science.
