On Monday, March 3, Ilchi Lee gave a lecture in front of 400 employees from the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education in South Korea. He shared with them his vision of formal education being more than just acquiring intellectual knowledge, but also learning to live with integrity for yourself and the Earth.
Ilchi Lee shares humor with the audience
Ilchi Lee opened his lecture by leading the audience in his Brain Wave Vibration technique. After experiencing the training, they said, "I feel less stressed now." With the responsibility of educating 14 million students in the large metropolis of Seoul, most Office of Education employees suffer from chronic stress. Experiencing the effects of Brain Wave Vibration made the audience more attentive to the rest of Ilchi Lee’s lecture.
During his lecture, Ilchi Lee reminded educators of the many problems that face the world. He explained his view that “how society’s problems turn out depends on decisions made by people”, which “boils down to the question of how to operate the brain well. The answer is in the brain.” Lee demonstrated this correlation by comparing economic growth charts to indexes measuring “happiness”.
Audience members reflect on Ilchi Lee's message
He also showed a slide comparing the characteristics of a “dark brain” to those of a “power brain”. A “dark brain”, as Lee defined it, is a brain under the impression that it can possess things, leading it to be competitive and greedy. A “power brain” understands that we are all just managing the things we have while we’re alive, and works for the common good. He explained that the purpose of his Brain Education (BE) program is to help individuals develop a “power brain”.
According to Lee, to become a “power brain” you need to understand the purpose of your life and the value of your existence. You also need to understand your brain, and be able to look beyond your information and environment. Most importantly, you need to have the hope of being successful in reaching any goal you set.
He gave the responsibility of giving hope to those who need it to the educators of society.
He contended that incorporating BE into the general education will transform it from just something for students, to a forum for bringing students, teachers and parents together.
Audience of educators appreciates Ilchi Lee's perspective
To illustrate BE, Lee overviewed the BEST 5 steps of Brain Education: Brain Sensitizing, Brain Versatilizing, Brain Refreshing, Brain Integrating, and Brain Mastering. He demonstrated to the Seoul educators how these steps can help individuals become free of the emotions they associate with their memories and information, in order to uncover what is really valuable to them. In Lee’s experience, when they go through this process they find values that benefit not only themselves, but the rest of society as well. Then when they reach Step 5 they are ready to take action.
Lee even gave the audience a prescription for taking action that is often used by successful individuals and organizations: PDCA. PDCA is an acronym for Plan, Do, Check, Action. By continually going through the process of PDCA, Lee says, students can develop the confidence early on to achieve any goal. Through BE they will develop goals that will not only benefit themselves, but the rest of humanity as well.
