Research results from two very important experiments were announced at the 2nd International Brain Education–Brain Wave Vibration Seminar on November 9, 2008. Two Japanese scientists presented their research titled, Brain Wave Vibration and Serotonin and The Psychological Effects of Brain Wave Vibration at the Osaka International Conference Room in Japan.
The first scientist to present, Arita Hideo, teaches integrated physiology at the Medical School of Toho University. He is a world renowned authority in serotonin research. The professor’s experiment showed a correlation between Brain Wave Vibration (BWV) and serotonin activity. Serotonin is a chemical messenger in the brain. Generally, the more serotonin that is secreted, the happier, more attentive, and more peaceful a person becomes. In fact, in people with depression, serotonin levels are lower than normal.
In his experiment, Prof. Arita had people do BWV training on three different occasions for 15 minutes. Here is a summary of his results.
- When the participants did BWV, more serotonin was secreted than before the training.
- Before training: 186
- Immediately after training: 210
- One hour after training: 200
- The amount of alpha waves in the brain increased after BWV. Alpha waves activate the cerebrum and create a peaceful state. They are the same kind of brain wave that is measured when someone sits in meditation.
- BWV increased brain blood flow, especially in the prefrontal cortex. This indicates more activity in the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for high-level tasks such as decision-making, creativity, social interactions, and the power of self-restraint.
- BWV reduced tension, uneasiness, and fatigue.
- BWV increased brain vitality to the highest level that had been measured in other experiments on various mind-body methods with a similar purpose.
- BWV affected serotonergic nerve cells. With repeated BWV training, the serotonin nerve pathways gradually changed their structure.
When he saw the results of his experiment, Prof. Arita was struck by the levels of serotonin he measured after repeated BWV. He told the audience, "This is the perfect number."
The next speaker, Komiya Noburu, Ph.D., presented his research on psychological changes from BWV experienced by 66 to 74 new Dahn Yoga members in Japan who joined from January to June 2008. This research measured eight psychological elements and found positive improvements in each.
Compared with when they joined the Dahn Yoga center, the members who did BWV later:
- Had higher self-respect.
- Became less nervous about interpersonal relationships.
- Became less obsessive about perfection.
- Were less nervous about failure.
- Had a higher sense of satisfaction.
- Felt more passionate.
- Felt less lonely.
- Felt healthier.
As Brain Wave Vibration creator Ilchi Lee told the 550 people in attendance, these research results demonstrate the substantial benefits of Brain Wave Vibration. He explained that Brain Wave Vibration is important for all humans to rediscover their humanity and resolve the problems they all face. Lee told the audience that what he really wanted them to find through Brain Wave Vibration was the true peaceful nature that their brains already knew how to create if simply given the chance.
