Brain Education for Successful Aging courses are starting to be offered around the country. The March 19 issue of the Red Rock News (a Sedona, Arizona newspaper) reported on one such class. The full text of the article follows.

In cooperation with the BR Clinic and Dahn Yoga Center, Sedona, the Sedona Public Library will offer the practical and powerful experiential Successful Aging Course, at the library, 3250 White Bear Road, from Monday, March 17, to Monday, June 23, on Monday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The instructor is Banya Lim, who has been trained and accredited in the Dahn Yoga and Brain Education programs. The course will counter the myths that surround the aging of the brain and encourage older adults to take an active role in keeping their brains in top condition for life.

Based on the five-step Brain Education method and the latest findings in neuroscience, the course will show its participants simple and practical exercises to get the most out of life in its last third by using the brain to its maximum potential.

The objectives of the Successful Aging Course include understanding your brain as it ages and its impact on body and mind; experiencing exercises to keep your brain vital; enhancing the quality of your life through advancing the brain’s performance and potential; increasing the body’s strength and energy; improving brain flexibility, creativity, concentration and memory and acuity; reducing the stressfulness; and developing a dynamic and valuable identity for maturity.

The Successful Aging Course generally follows the outline of the new book, In Full Bloom: A Brain Education Guide for Successful Aging, by Ilchi Lee and Jessie Jones, Ph.D. The book is recommended but not required. Copies are for sale at Sedona Story, 207 N. Hwy. 89A, or available at the Sedona Public Library.
