Understand Your True Value
Do you truly love yourself? This is not as obvious a question as it may appear. We all have built-in instincts of self-preservation, but this is not the same as self-love.
True self-love comes from a deep understanding of and appreciation for your own intrinsic worth, which many people today do not understand. If they did, they would realize that there is no need to build themselves up through gaining status and gathering possessions. Those who do this have mistakenly allowed their identity to be decided by the opinions of others, when in reality these things are only temporary illusions.
If you truly love yourself, the opinions of others, both positive and negative, should bounce off of you like a rubber ball off a sidewalk. Self-love means to know emphatically who you are inside and to build a life according to that understanding. This is not a temporary love based on the successes of the moment, but an eternal love based on recognition of the divine nature that lies at the center of your being.
