Modern science has cured many deadly diseases and has found ways to extend life even in the most extreme circumstances. Ironically, in the Twenty-first century, many people die from preventable illnesses which are related to their lifestyle choices. Humans may technically live longer, but with diminished quality of life. Ilchi Lee believes that we can redress this quality of life imbalance with ancient wisdom. Jang Saeng principles do not focus only on the quantity of years an individual lives, but their quality of life and the quality of life enjoyed by their family, neighbors, and compatriots, as well as the quality of their relationship with their environment.
The ancient Jang Saeng principles offer ways to obtain and maintain vibrant health. People can enjoy a productive lifestyle while wisely living in harmony with nature. In the ancient Sun Do traditions of the Korean people, virtuous living was not encouraged by the promise of a reward in an afterlife or other incarnation. Instead, virtuous living was thought to offer the reward of a better, healthier, and longer life right now. There is an inexorable link between nurturing the beauty of the earth and the beauty within the human being. The ideal was to live a healthy life in a beautiful place and in harmony with nature for as long as possible.
In keeping with these principles, Ilchi Lee has developed a special aspect of Brain Education to address the quality of life imbalance, to help people live better, longer. He is currently doing further study to adapt these ancient teachings to modern living. So that today’s adults can enjoy and maintain youthful vigor throughout their lives while learning to live more harmoniously with the world around them, he hopes to teach what his ancestors understood so well: wisdom and compassion are essential components to truly healthy living.
