4/16/08 teleconference

Colorado: The regional manager and one of the myungsa went to a special mayors’ roundtable sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. There they were able to share about Ilchi Lee and garner the interest of the Denver mayor, who remembers Ilchi Lee from proclaiming Ilchi Lee Day in Denver one year ago. They also gave the In Full Bloom book to several interested mayors from the surrounding area. While they were there they found out about the upcoming State of Education meeting on 5/13, where they can go to network about BE.

All centers in Colorado will hold a free 90-minute BESA open seminar taught by BEL graduateswhere they will introduce BESA and the 12-week sessions that will start in May.

Sedona: We will have a BESA workshop at a local independent bookstore, the Well Red Coyote. The bookstore will do their usual advertising. In fact, it helped them decide to carry In Full Bloom.

Seattle: Recently had a successful 2-day BESA workshop with 10 people. They plan to bring the book to the universities or local hospitals in Seattle that have gerontology departments.

Other then gerontology departments, departments of social work or other social aspects of aging may also be interested in the book.

Arizona: One member has started doing BESA training at a senior center in a small mining town that has been very successful. Arizona is focusing on senior centers and active adult communities. They are also trying to start offering exercise in the malls over the summer, since many residents go there to walk (to escape the heat).

N. California: Will have an Introduction to Dahn Yoga event on 5/4 (National Laughing Day) at a Jewish Community Center in San Francisco. They will hold a class and have various Dahn books and the 2 exercise DVDs, as well as the BESA brochures. They will send IFB to someone working at the Jewish Community Center that focuses on aging.
